FAQs
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
The clinic does not require a doctor’s referral; however, some private insurance companies do require one to be reimbursed for a speech and language assessment and/or therapy.
How do I know if my child needs a speech and language assessment?
If your child is experiencing difficulty making sounds, putting words or sentences together, following directions and/or stuttering, a speech or language assessment may be indicated.
When should I be concerned about my child’s speech and language development?
Parents generally have great intuition about their child’s development. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress in the areas of speech and language, it’s never too early to speak with a speech language pathologist. We can provide you with information on developmental milestones as well as strategies to help facilitate speech and language development (see resources for speech and language developmental milestones).
How many therapy sessions does my child need in total?
Each child responds differently to therapy. Success in therapy depends on several factors such as commitment to practice, motivation, stimulability of speech and language targets and family support.
How do we initiate the self-referral process?
We can be contacted by phone or email.
What do I need to bring to the initial assessment?
Any pertinent medical records, previous speech and language and/or audiological reports should be brought to the initial assessment.
What are payment options?
We accept cash, cheque or e-transfer.
